Use Case - Modeling the growth of the soldier fly larva

Modeling the growth of the soldier fly larva

Optimization of a mathematical model to be integrated in a system for the automatic regulation of the parameters of a bioreactor.

Company: BEF Biosystems

Technology provider: OPTIMAD SRL

Optimization of a mathematical model to be integrated into the automatic regulation system of the bioreactor’s parameters.

Challenge

BEF Biosystems’ experimental solution, developed with support from IP4FVG and in collaboration with OPTIMAD, arises from the startup’s need to automate parameter adjustment in their cutting-edge bioconverters designed for insect breeding.

The goal is to develop and integrate an expert system for automating optimal operating parameters in a larvae breeding bioreactor. This tool is pivotal for enhancing the bio-converter’s management, currently relying on manual control grounded in experiential knowledge.

Solution

Collaborating with OPTIMAD and leveraging simulation and optimization technologies, BEF Biosystems has crafted a mathematical model. The model replicates and optimizes insect growth in the bioconverter, improving thermal efficiency in the tank housing them.
Utilizing this model, the company aims to create automated machine control and management software, enhancing machinery efficiency for large-scale deployment.
